Women’s Equality Day Reflection
“We honor Women’s Equality Day on August 26 by reflecting on the historic achievement of the ratification of 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920 that granted many women the right to vote. Please join the Women’s Empowerment Alliance (WEA) employee resource group (ERG) in celebrating this day that also reminds us of the ongoing commitment needed to advance gender equality for all women and the incredible progress that has been made over the years.
“Our ERG is dedicated to fostering an environment where every woman can thrive and succeed by providing networking and mentorship opportunities, as well as community outreach initiatives to support the personal and professional growth of women. Together, we make a difference!”

Learn More About DEI Terms
The Glossary of Important DEI Terms, available in the DEI Toolkit, is a valuable resource for Houston Methodist employees that provides definitions to common DEI terms. Each month, the DEI Corner presents definitions to help increase staff awareness and understanding. This month’s term:
Social Drivers of Health (SDOH): The social and economic conditions in which people are born, live, work and play. These conditions can all correlate to social drivers related to a person’s ability to afford or have access to health care services, healthy food, affordable housing, transportation and more. SDOH are often the underlying drivers of major health issues such as diabetes, obesity, depression and heart disease.
