Going Beyond Cultural Competency
Understanding and appreciating the traditions and cultures of our colleagues and the patients and communities we serve can improve communication and help build stronger teams. The Beyond Cultural Competency learning session will help you gain the knowledge and skills to effectively recognize and appreciate cultural differences, the role empathy plays in effective communication and examine how it enables us to display our I CARE values. Click HERE to request a team learning session.
In addition to Beyond Cultural Competency, the DEI Learning courses available now include Recognizing the Impact of Microaggressions, Managing Unconscious Bias, Navigating Multi-Generational Teams and Together We Grow. Search “DEI” in the LMS to register for any DEI Learning session. For more information, email deilearning@houstonmethodist.org.
Join an Employee Resource Group
Membership in the 10 HM employee resource groups (ERGs) is growing rapidly. Why? They’re an informal and relaxed way to meet up with colleagues who share common interests or backgrounds or want to learn more about the cultural traditions of their co-workers.
The voluntary employee-created and led groups provide a safe, neutral space for employees and offer professional and personal development opportunities. Members may also participate in networking events and community involvement activities.
Employees across the system can join any ERG they identify with or would like to learn more about and support. You can also start a new group!
To find out what all the excitement is about, text “ERG” to 45991, scan the QR code below or contact Nazia Imrose at nimrose2@houstonmethodist.org.
