July Designated as Disability Pride Month
In March 1990, a group of disability rights activists staged the Capitol Crawl, in which disabled people pulled themselves up all 100 steps of the Capitol building to highlight the nation’s lack of accessibility in public spaces. The protest was cited as a major factor leading to the July 26, 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by President George H.W. Bush. The legislation prohibits discrimination and guarantees that people with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else to participate in mainstream American life. Disability Pride Month celebrates people with disabilities by honoring their inherent rights, promoting their visibility and recognizing their achievements.

Appreciating How Our Experiences Shape Us
The life experiences that each of us navigate are foundational in shaping our individual perspectives, beliefs and opinions. The Web of Connectedness group activity helps to uncover how sharing similar experiences impacts our personal and professional relationships. Learning how these experiences influence our bonds between friends and coworkers can help to build more cohesive teams. The DEI Toolkit provides resources on this and numerous other topics to help you and your team continue the conversation around important DEI topics. The Toolkit is continuously updated, so check back regularly for more resources.
Help Enhance the DEI Toolkit
We encourage you to utilize the DEI Resources Submission Form in the DEI Toolkit to recommend new books, videos, activities, assessments and other resources be added to the Toolkit. Submissions will be reviewed by the Toolkit administrator, with approved resources added to the Toolkit’s “Collaboration” tile.
