Celebrate Holi
The Asian Heritage employee resource group (ERG) in collaboration with CPAM is hosting a celebration of Holi on March 25 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Crain Garden. The event will feature musical performances honoring the holiday—one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals—that welcomes the arrival of spring and is observed around the world. It’s also known as the “Festival of Colors.” For information, contact asianheritage@houstonmethodist.org.
Observing the Holy Season of Ramadan
As the holy season of Ramadan continues, Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services is reinstating its annual Iftar and inviting all physicians and staff who observe the holiday to come together to break fast on Thursday, March 28 at 7:15 p.m. in the Houston Methodist Hospital Outpatient Center lobby. Ramadan, which began on March 10, is a time to purify the body, mind and spirit while focusing on charity and generosity toward neighbors and is observed by Muslims worldwide. Learn More About DEI Terms
The Glossary of Important DEI Terms, available in the DEI Toolkit, is a valuable resource for Houston Methodist employees by providing definitions to common DEI terms. Each month, the DEI Corner presents definitions to help increase staff awareness and understanding. This month we define what empathy means.
Empathy is the ability to share someone else’s feelings or experiences by imagining what it would be like to be in that person’s situation. Empathy is the foundation of diversity and inclusion. It enables you to recognize and appreciate the differences and similarities among people. It also allows you to communicate effectively and respectfully with people who have different views and needs and helps avoid stereotypes, biases and assumptions.
