The month-long schedule of weekly themed activities and events coordinated by the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to celebrate October’s designation as Global Diversity Awareness Month continues with this week’s (Oct. 14–18) activity:
Roots and Routes
Explore an interactive map with fascinating facts on geography, pop culture and more about regions across the globe. Join us in this immersive adventure to celebrate and appreciate the beautiful tapestry of cultures that make up our global community.
Coming the week of October 21–25
Global Trivia. Join Chris Siebenaler, executive vice president of Network Hospitals, or Dr. Shlomit Schaal, executive VP and chief physician executive, president and chief executive officer of the Houston Methodist Physician Organization, for a virtual trivia contest based on international movies, music and more. Cultural Cuisine. Discover the revised “Around the World Cookbook” featuring new dietary tags and special recognition for our Culinary Contest winners. Stay tuned for entity-specific Culinary Contest date and time information.

Video Series Examines Health Equity
Part three in the DEI Video Insights Health Equity Committee Series features Assistant Professor, Clinical Medicine, HMAI Dr. Ryan Neal, chair of the DEI Committee of the Clinical Medicine Dept. and the Weill Cornell Medical College and member of the Social Drivers of Health (SDOH) Sub-Committee, describing strategies to help everyone in our community receive unparalleled service and care. Discussion Examines Childhood Mental Health
The Fathers In Health Care employee resource group (ERG) hosts the discussion, “Whose Anxiety is This? How the Bowen Family Systems Theory Helps Us Understand the Role Parents Play in Childhood Mental Health.” The virtual session scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. on October 24 will be led by Houston Methodist’s Dr. William Orme, assistant professor of psychology in Clinical Psychiatry & Behavioral Health, HMAI, who will explore how family dynamics and parental roles impact children’s emotional well-being.
