There are many evidence-based reasons for becoming a Magnet organization.
First, Magnet organizations are able to attract and retain top talent. Second, patient care, safety and satisfaction is improved because excellence is the standard. Third, a collaborative culture is fostered so that the goal of excellent patient care is the focus of all professionals. Fourth, nursing standards and practices are advanced. The Institute of Medicine 2011 The Future of Nursing: Leading Nursing and Advancing Health report calls for nurses to become partners and leaders in improving the delivery of care and the health care system as a whole. This requires innovation, courage and hard work. The final evidence-based reason for becoming a Magnet organization is that it helps HMSL grow our business and financial success. This is critical in the current health care environment.
