March 23, 2020: Conquering fear and increasing courage is something we are all doing on a minute-by-minute basis as we learn how to navigate COVID-19 and the opportunities we have preparing for and caring for patients who need our help. Joe Tye sent out an e-book last week titled “Everyday Courage for Extraordinary Times; Simple Strategies for Surviving, Striving, and Thriving in a Turbulent World.” One of my take-aways is a quote from Dr. Scott Peck, author of The Road Less Traveled.” “The absence of fear is not courage, it’s brain damage!” Fear is part of being human. Courage is facing and overcoming fear, so we can do what we must do.
What do you think about this quote:
When afraid for the future, concentrate your attention on the work of today. When afraid of today, fix your vision on the dreams of tomorrow. – McZen
I am grateful for the sacred work you do every day as we face uncertainty and fear with courage and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Hope and courage are gifts we give ourselves, each other, and our patients. You are all a gift to me!
