June 3, 2019: Clint Eastwood’s ‘Dirty Harry’ character is famous for saying “go ahead, make my day”. As the seasoned and somewhat grumpy San Francisco police inspector, making his day didn’t have a positive connotation!
The third fishing practice from the book FISH! A proven way to boost morale and improve results by Stephen Lundin, et al. is ‘Make Their Day’! At the Pikes Place Seattle fish market, the fish guys look for opportunities to create good memories for their customers by including the customers in their good time. They engage their customers in ways that create positive energy and good will. When we create great memories for others, we ‘make their day’.
The Magnet champions came up with a list of ideas to make someone’s day and these look a lot like the Operation Kindness ideas:
– Buy someone coffee
– Smile at everyone you meet
– Thank someone for their help by sending them a Bravo
– Offer to take over someone’s work load for 15 minutes so they can get caught up on charting
– Leave a favorite snack on someone’s desk or WOW with a note telling them just how special they are
Go ahead – Make someone’s Day!
