May 6, 2019 – Happy Nurses’ Week! Today begins the celebration of all that nurses contribute to our lives. Nursing is a diverse profession. You can find nurses at summer camps, as principle investigators in research studies, in hospitals, outpatient clinics, serving at-risk populations around the world, in parishes, hospices, schools, industry, virtually through telemedicine, civil servants, the armed forces, and the list goes on. No matter where nurses practice, they bring the nursing process to their environment, the ability to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate. The nursing process is the essential core of practice for registered nurses so we can deliver holistic, patient-centered care.
Nursing is an intimate profession – we hold hands, give hugs, deliver good and bad news, give babies their first baths, insert tubes and devices, cheerlead, advocate, wash, clean, titrate drips, comfort, cry with families, laugh with patients, teach, lead, and so much more. Nurses show up for patient’s best and worst days. Take time to thank a nurse for all they do and take time to listen to a nurse, we have some amazing stories!
