Magnet Mondays – Quality Improvement

February 26, 2018: Quality Improvement:  Quality Improvement processes are perceived as educational and a way to improve the quality of care delivered in a Magnet® recognized organization.  At Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, we use the FOCUS PDCA quality improvement methodology whenever there is a process that needs to be improved.  Some examples of quality improvement projects here at HMSL are:

  • Delayed bathing project (newborn nursery and NICU)
  • Thermoregulation of the newborn (L&D, newborn nursery, NICU)
  • Reducing Falls (Main 5 East)
  • Reducing hospital onset clostridium difficile

What areas of opportunity for improvement exist in your unit or department?

Do you perceive quality improvement as a way to reach unparalleled safety, quality, service and innovation?

– Janet Leatherwood, CNO
