March 20: Have you ever stopped to take the time to share with someone in our community about your role at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital? What makes you most proud of your role? What do you contribute to our organization? Sometimes all it takes is for someone to share their enthusiasm about their profession to spark another’s interest in a health care career.
Many student volunteers have participated in our volunteer program to gain insight into the various health care professions through our volunteer department and Jeanne VanDuivendyk, volunteer services coordinator. Sharing our knowledge and experience is a gift we give our community. Feedback from these student volunteers is so encouraging.
One student shadowed Nathan Le, RN in the ICU this summer. She shared that her “day with Nathan was unforgettable as a shadowing student. It was my first time ever being there next to the patients and seeing what nurses do on a daily basis – it’s incredible.”
Another volunteer wrote, “I had the most amazing time yesterday. I was able to witness two cesarean sections and a delivery. This was the highlight of my summer… and helped me to better understand and appreciate the nursing staff. I’m more excited about a career in medicine! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”
Magnet organizations share their knowledge, experience and resources with the community they serve.
Share what you know, you may be surprised at the impact it will have on others.
