August 26, 2019 – Let’s wrap up our review of the four Magnet® domains. New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements speaks to how Magnet-recognized organizations conscientiously integrate evidence-based practice (EBP) and research into clinical and operational processes. The advancement of EBP and research is supported at HMSL through the EBP and Research Shared Governance Council, HMSL EBP mentors, the Houston Methodist Clinical Scholar’s Program, and the annual HMSL QI/EBP workshop. Many of our HMSL departments present their EBP and Research projects/studies at local, state, national and international conferences throughout the year. Some examples are:
- PACU Aromatherapy EBP project presented internationally at the Sigma Theta Tau conference in Canada,
- Pharmacy/Nursing research study on asymptomatic Bacteriuria presented at a regional conference and National conference,
- Joint Program presented their EBP project at a National Conference,
- Surgical and Medical ICUs presented their restraint reduction project at a National Conference,
- Radiology department presented their contrast media extravasation reduction project at a regional conference,
- Perioperative Department presented at the local and National Level,
- Emergency Department presented at the State and National level,
- The Neurology Department presented at a National conference,
- The Respiratory Therapy COPD education Research Study presented at a Regional Conference, and
- The Child Birth Center presented multiple EBP projects at the State and National Level.
This involvement demonstrates how we are a learning organization! I’m grateful for the work each of you do daily to incorporate the best evidence into your practice. Let’s keep learning together!
