The theme for 2017 is “Educate Before you Medicate – Knowledge is the Best Medicine – Talk With Your Pharmacist”.
We are comprised of 31 pharmacy technicians and 34 pharmacist who provide support in centralized and decentralized areas of pharmacy. The HMSL Department of Pharmacy Services annually dispenses approximately 2 million doses, conducts approximately 20,000 medication history interviews and documents approximately 6,000 interventions. In the past year, the team has embraced new technologies of Dose Edge and EPIC improving efficiencies and safety in patient outcomes. We have remained focused on quality initiatives such as delirium and antibiotic stewardship, resulting in achievement of goals and considerations of new approaches and research studies impacting our delivery of quality care. Pharmacy contribution to the achievement of Magnet Designation was demonstrated in exemplars which showcased the interprofessional collaboration that support the mission and vision of Houston Methodist Hospital Sugar Land Hospital. Our pharmacists continually support this year’s theme by providing patient education and presentations to health care teams about medication use.
