Houston Methodist Neuroscience & Spine Center at Sugar Land reached a significant milestone in May – 10 years of serving patients from across Fort Bend and surrounding areas.
During the past decade, the Neuroscience & Spine Center has scheduled more than 60,000 appointments for a broad range of conditions, diseases and injuries.
“The Neuroscience & Spine Center opened in 2010 with a goal of providing expedited care in one convenient location,” said Director Maureen Lall, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, COHN-S, SCRN. “The Neuroscience & Spine Center brings together an inter-professional group of board-certified physicians and therapists who can quickly diagnose and treat patients, supported by patient care navigators who assist patients in managing the logistics of their care.”
The Neuroscience & Spine Center features a broad array of specialists including neurologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, pain management specialists, physical and occupational therapists, and primary care sports medicine specialists. Working collaboratively, they treat a wide variety of disorders including: Alzheimer’s disease and memory disorders; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS); back and neck pain; brain and spinal tumors; epilepsy and seizures; headaches and migraines; multiple sclerosis (MS); muscle and nerve injuries; muscular atrophy; myasthenia gravis; neuromuscular disorders; Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders; peripheral neuropathy; sleep disorders; and stroke
One of the keys to the Neuroscience & Spine Center’s success is Houston Methodist Sugar Land’s sophisticated imaging capabilities that enable doctors to pinpoint issues and accurately diagnose each patient’s condition.
The hospital houses three whole-body, 3-Tesla MRI scanners – the industry’s most powerful technology typically found only in the nation’s top academic medical centers — as well as advanced CT scanners that provide more detailed views than traditional units.
Houston Methodist Sugar Land also offers one of the country’s leading physical rehabilitation programs. Experts in back and neck therapy work directly with Neuroscience & Spine Center physicians to create and implement rehabilitation plans that help patients overcome their injury or condition, reduce or eliminate pain and regain their mobility.
In addition to treating back and neck pain, the Neuroscience & Spine Center is also a leader in neurological care, using the most advanced therapeutic options to minimize symptoms, delay progression and improve the quality of life.
“We offer the entire range of care – from imaging to treatment to surgery, if necessary – all conveniently available onsite at Houston Methodist Sugar Land,” said Lall. “That’s a tremendous benefit to patients, especially those with chronic pain or neurological conditions that impair mobility, because it eliminates the need to travel to multiple locations for care.”
