Ramadan (Islam)

At sundown on April 23, our Muslim colleagues will begin observing the holy season of Ramadan. From sunup to sundown each day they will fast from food and beverages, including water. It is a time for purification of the body, mind, and spirit. Ramadan is also a season of charity and generosity toward neighbors. On May 23, at sundown, they will break their month of fasting on the last day of Ramadan, called Eid al-Fitr.

It is appropriate to greet our Muslim colleagues with wishes for a blessed or peaceful Ramadan.

The starting and ending dates are dependent on the sighting of the moon of Ramadan and could vary by one or two days.
