Four employees from each of the service lines (Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, Inpatient Services and Outpatient Services) have been named as a “Star of the Month” in recognition for their commitment to our patients and I CARE values. These employees have been selected based on outstanding patient comments and feedback received. Each month we alternate between featuring employees who received exceptional recognition from one of our various surveys (NRC Survey, RealTime, CONNECT Discharge Phone Calls, MyRounding) and employees who have been noted as going above and beyond through feedback from the Service Quality team and Guest Relations rounds.
We are excited to showcase and recognize the amazing hard work that our employees deliver to our patients on a daily basis. Thank you for being a part of our journey to unparalleled.
Dr. Nayan Patel – Emergency Department
- Dr. Patel was very informative about what was going on with my heart beating so crazily. Very nice bedside manner.
- Dr. Nayan Patel was very kind. He took the time to explain in layman’s terms what may be causing the symptoms that I was experiencing. He has very great bedside manners.
Maria Hercules — Environmental Services
Here is the feedback received from a patient’s father:
He relayed that he was so happy that he had run into the patient liaison as they were discharging and he wanted to make sure that he shared some feedback about one of our employees. He stated that the entire visit had been amazing and that all the nurses and staff were kind and helpful but one interaction stood out. He shared that his wife’s family were “old fashioned” and that they had made some comments that upset his wife. In comforting her, he became overwhelmed himself and was sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. At that moment, the EVS staff Maria knocked on the door and asked if she could come in and clean. They invited her to come in but he said that she could tell they were both struggling. He said that she asked him what was wrong and comforted him, reassuring him that “this was my family” and it would be ok. After comforting him, she also patted his wife on the back and spoke kind words to her. When she left, both he and his wife felt better and stronger and able to take on the challenges ahead.
He said that Maria came in at the perfect moment and provided them with not only comfort but the reassurance that they were going to be “OK”. He said that she could have just ignored what was going on in the room and cleaned and left but that she took the time to stop, notice their distress and provide that extra level of care was exceptional.
As he told this story, he was tearing up just recounting how much her interaction meant to him and his wife. He said that he believes we are the “best hospital in the world” because of employees like Maria.
Stephanie Kerwin — PT/OT, Outpatient
- My therapist was Stephanie Kerwin, she did an outstanding job and went above and beyond to ease my discomfort. She was very good at taking the time to educate me on my home exercises and I would highly recommend her to others. A true asset for Houston Methodist.
- Please express my thanks to the staff in the reception area who are always warm and welcoming. Stephanie did my PT after shoulder replacement Oct 2018 and I am still seeing Rex for PT after knee replacement in Aug 2019. My very positive experience at this rehab facility in 2018 made it easy to choose to return here. I have no doubt that through the knowledge and expertise of both these therapists that my recovery after both surgeries has been expedited in the most beneficial manner. In addition to their professional treatment at rehab, both Stephanie and Rex have always helped me understand what exercises I needed to do at home. Both have always been courteous, kind, and truly invested in assisting me to reach clear and reasonable goals. Thanks to both of them; I value the difference their intervention has made to my speedy recovery after these two life-changing surgeries.
- The physiotherapist, Stephanie, was miraculous she has magic in her hands she treated the pain points and when I walked in I was at the paint point level 8, 8.5 and after few sessions itself it reduced, after the second it actually reduced to 3, and then I walked out of the clinic with zero pain. So today I’m in no pain at all. That’s really amazing and I have been in this situation for a long time having chronic pain, but Stephanie completely helped. So kudos to her and her knowledge base and the way she kind of understands the root cause and treats them. It’s amazing.
Clarissa Ebueng, RN – Ambulatory Surgery
- Clarissa, RN started my IV and was my post-procedure nurse, she was FANTASTIC! She went over discharge instructions very clearly and made sure I was pain-free. She even got my wife a cup of coffee, which I appreciated so much!
- From the moment I arrived everyone, was most helpful and professional. The treatment from the reception staff was attentive and friendly. Clarissa was wonderful and went above and beyond. Let her know she is appreciated.
- Nurse Clarissa made me feel comfortable and at ease before my procedure and afterward. I appreciate the care I received!
