Four employees from each of the service lines (Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, Inpatient Services and Outpatient Services) have been named as a “Star of the Month” in recognition for their commitment to our patients and I CARE values. These employees have been selected based on outstanding patient comments and feedback received. Each month we alternate between featuring employees who received exceptional recognition from one of our various surveys (NRC Survey, RealTime, CONNECT Discharge Phone Calls, MyRounding) and employees who have been noted as going above and beyond through feedback from the Service Quality team and Guest Relations rounds.
We are excited to showcase and recognize the amazing hard work that our employees deliver to our patients on a daily basis. Thank you for being a part of our journey to unparalleled.
Jeremiah Quintana, Housekeeping – Inpatient
A patient reported missing a black pouch with around $200 in cash, her IDs and several pieces of jewelry. Per the patient, she had pinned the pouch to the inside of her gown and had not alerted the staff to its presence. She and her daughters were very upset because of the sentimental nature of the jewelry in the pouch.
A patient liaison received a call from Paula letting her know that one of the employees had recovered a black pouch with personal items. Paula recalled the missing item from last week and identified all the pertinent contents. The patient liaison met with several employees to present the pouch to the patient. Paula explained how the pouch was laundered, folded and was ready to go back out to the floors. When Jeremiah went to pull the gowns to stock his floor, he felt something strange hit his wrist. He pulled the gown out and found the pouch still pinned to the inside of the gown. He looked inside and saw the personal property and took it immediately to his managers.
The patient was so excited and overjoyed to get her items back. She said that Jeremiah didn’t have to return the items and that you don’t often see honesty like that these days. She said that those values he showed will take him far in life and his career. She added that he was handsome as well, so that didn’t hurt either! She said that she really wanted to give him a monetary tip but understood that wasn’t possible so she wanted to let everyone know what an outstanding employee he was and for him to get kudos from the hospital for living our values.
Weldon Newton, Paramedic – Emergency Department
“Weldon took care of my uncle while he was in the ER,” said a patient. “Not only did he take care of his medical needs, but he talked to him, which made all the difference. Before my uncle was transferred to his room, Weldon told him that he would come up and check on him before he left for the night. I didn’t really expect to see him that night, but he was true to his word and came up to see him. My uncle was so excited and said Weldon really made his day. He had the biggest smile on his face while Weldon was there and even after he left.”
“Weldon was the one who came in to take her vitals and he was “so nice” to her,” said another patient to a liaison. “Weldon is wonderful, helped turn my visit around and I want to make sure he gets recognition.”
Juno Willis, RN – Ambulatory Surgery
“Juno was awesome, the first one who made the effort to listen. She went above and beyond, always has a smile on her face and is fully present. She makes you feel welcome and at ease. She provides the best experience possible!”
Michelle Heebner, Therapist – Outpatient
The following patients had these things to say about Michelle:
“I greatly appreciate that Michelle is knowledgeable and I’m impressed with that. She has helped me considerably.”
“Michelle Heebner was very capable, knowledgeable and very compassionate. I believe she has mastered her physical therapy skills because I felt so much better after only one session. She is a huge asset to Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.”
