We are pleased to announce the 2015 Volunteers of the Year: Larry Duyka and Ambrose Graham!
Mr. Larry Duyka, better known and “Larry the Chair Guy”. Larry is a retired engineer who has been “on the go” as a Wheelchair volunteer since July, 2013. In addition to his volunteer work at HMSL, Larry is very active in the St. Laurence Catholic Church.
Larry has the responsibility of making sure that all of the critical areas of the hospital have a sufficient number of wheelchairs. He has taken on this responsibility as a personal mission and never fails to get those wheelchairs where they need to be. In addition to that, Larry transports visitors and patients, escorts visitors to their destination, and works in the lobby of MOB 3.
Larry’s attitude is always pleasant and sincere. He is friendly and open to all those who walk through our doors. He always has a quick smile and a positive attitude. He tries to relieve the fear and anxiety many visitors exhibit when in a new and unfamiliar environment by his friendly, compassionate manner.
Ambrose Graham is the recipient of the 2015 Spiritual Care Volunteer of the Year Award. In addition to serving as a Holy Communion Minister from Saint Laurence Parish, Ambrose recruits, trains, and supervises all of the Holy Communion Ministers from Saint Laurence. In addition, Ambrose is involved in the scheduling of over 40 Eucharistic Ministers each week who visit Roman Catholic patients in our Hospital, in consultation with our Senior Staff Chaplain, Sherry Joshy. In short, Ambrose is the “bridge” that connects Saint Laurence with our hospital. Ambrose is a wonderful ambassador in serving our patients and goes about his ministry with a spirit of humility and grace. His embodiment of our Hospital’s I CARE Values is clearly experienced by everyone that he encounters. We are honored that he is among us and that he is the recipient of our 2016 Spiritual Care Volunteer of the Year Award!
