Hungry or thirsty? Grab a Byte 24/7! Two Byte Smart Fridges are now available near the 2nd floor Starbucks in the Main Pavilion. Just swipe a credit or debit card, grab what you want, and go. Thanks to the Night Shift Shared Governance Council for this innovative idea and to everyone who submitted input for menu items to include.
Many of the food products are freshly made, and the fridges feature the latest technology:
- Each product features an RFID identification tag.
- When you swipe your credit card, a fridge inventory is performed; if you close the fridge and don’t take any product, you aren’t charged.
- When the fridge closes, an inventory is performed again to identify the products removed (your charges).
- While fridges will be regularly restocked, product expiration is also tracked. If an expired item is overlooked, the fridge locks for safety until the expired product is removed.
