Muhammad Huq, RN, of 4 East was honored as the hospital’s DAISY Award winner for the third quarter of 2017.
Muhammad received four nominations, all praising his professionalism and compassion.
“I have been around clinics and hospitals my whole life, and I can recognize the rare individuals who can do their job with a combination of confidence and kindness,” wrote one patient. “My wife and I greatly appreciate his work while I was at Houston Methodist. He is worthy of recognition.”
Two of the nominations mentioned Muhammad’s skill in training student nurses. “If they follow the example they were taught by him, they will become an above average nurse,” wrote one nominator.
One patient, a nurse herself, said Muhammad made her difficult hospitalization better thanks to his service and care.
“I’ve been a nurse since 1976 and I know patient care should come first,” she wrote. “Muhammad went above and beyond to make my stay a little more comfortable. His unwavering kindness and compassion are second to none. I certainly hope to see a well-deserved DAISY pin on his badge my next visit.”
In honor of his DAISY Award selection, Muhammad received a certificate of appreciation, a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona tribe in Zimbabwe.
“Muhammad is not just demonstrating our I CARE Values to patients,” said Janet Leatherwood, Chief Nursing Officer. “He is also helping to continue the tradition of caring by showing the students he works with how a nurse can be professional and compassionate even in challenging circumstances. We are proud to recognize him with this DAISY Award.”
