Ramadan Reflection
Ramadan is considered the holiest month in the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting, prayer, personal reflection and focus on their communities. Ramadan takes place during the ninth month in the Islamic calendar based on the lunar cycle, or phases of the moon. This year it is scheduled to be observed March 10 through April 8. Arab Heritage employee resource group (ERG) member Salma Taher, coding supervisor, PO Central Business Office, shares why the observance holds a significant place in her life.
“Ramadan is important for me because it’s a time for me to grow in spirituality by building a stronger relationship with God. It’s the time when I seek forgiveness and it’s the month when I am reminded of how fortunate I am. It humbles me to be grateful. Ramadan is a reminder for us to give more charity to people in need and experiencing poverty and have self-control in every aspect of our lives.”

Employee Resource Groups Are Booming
Membership in the 10 HM employee resource groups (ERGs) is growing rapidly. Why? They’re an informal and relaxed way to meet up with colleagues who share common interests or backgrounds or want to learn more about the cultural traditions of their co-workers.
The voluntary employee-created and led groups provide a safe, neutral space for employees and offer professional and personal development opportunities. Members may also participate in networking events and community involvement activities.
Employees across the system can join any ERG they identify with or would like to learn more about and support. You can also start a new group!
