As you know, there have been several leadership changes throughout Houston Methodist recently as we continue to grow in our communities. An email was recently sent announcing that Dr. Nick Desai will soon become the chief operating officer, chief medical officer and chief quality officer at our newest hospital, Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital. Nick has been a steady presence at Houston Methodist Sugar Land and many of you have worked with him in his roles as chief medical officer and chief quality officer. We are sorry to see him go as he had a significant impact here but so happy for him as he takes the next step in his career. Below is the announcement from Cypress CEO Trent Fulin:
Join me in welcoming our two newest leaders to the Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital team. Dr. Nicholas Desai will serve as our chief operating officer, chief medical officer and chief quality officer, starting his new job in the spring after transitioning from his current role at Houston Methodist Sugar Land. Nickolaus Escobedo becomes our new associate chief nursing officer on Feb. 11. Both bring a wealth of experience, expertise and knowledge of Houston Methodist standards and values.
Nicholas Desai, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, currently serves as chief medical officer and chief quality officer at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, responsible for hospital strategy, innovation portfolio, medical staff, and hospital and quality operations. Desai, who has been at Houston Methodist for 13 years, has served as chief medical information officer and member of the Houston Methodist Center for Innovation where he led large-scale clinical transformation, EHR design and conversion and cost transparency initiatives. His experience as an adviser to various startup and health care tech companies is valuable as he helps the Cypress leadership team build an AI-powered digital hospital.
In his new roles, Desai will work with me to lead the strategic direction and operational objectives of multiple service lines, as well as serve as the CMO and CQO of our new hospital. As Cypress grows over the next two years, he will transition to being COO full time, while also maintaining a limited surgical practice.
Nick Escobedo, currently a clinical director at Houston Methodist Hospital, provides leadership, accountability, operational and strategic direction for nursing and business operations of the medical oncology and bone marrow transplant service lines. He was formerly associate chief nursing officer at HMH as part of a three-year leadership program. Nick has a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. In his new role, Nick will report to the Cypress CNO, Caroline Mascarenhas, and be responsible for helping build a culture of nursing excellence and an environment that ensures superior patient outcomes.
We are building an incredible team at Cypress and I am grateful these two are joining us soon.
