Registered Dieticians
National Registered Dietician Day is celebrated on March 8 this year. According to the Illinois Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, registered dietitians serve as our country’s food and nutrition experts and are committed to improving the health of their patients, clients and communities. HMSL is lucky to have six dieticians on staff that do nutrition consults, malnutrition-focused physical exams and provide nutrition education. They are an energetic team that is eager to collaborate across various disciplines.
Athletic Trainers
March is Athletic Training Month. HMSL is lucky to have 26 athletic trainers who work full-time at 17 high school campuses in our area. We also have three outreach athletic trainers who visit more than 60 school campuses in an 8,000 square mile area on a regular basis providing care to student athletes, evaluating injuries, setting up rehab, and helping parents set up appointments for their children. We are so thankful for all they do in our community! The 2023 slogan is “There’s an AT for That.” From concussions and sprains to general medical conditions, there’s an AT for that. As culturally competent health care professionals, athletic trainers are equipped to prevent, diagnose and treat a variety of health issues, often providing necessary preemptive, emergency and lifesaving care for all.
During March, athletic trainers across America are being recognized for their commitment to helping people prevent injuries, stay healthy and active and most recently, leading the way with establishing COVID-19 protocols. As health care professionals, they are highly educated and dedicated to the job at hand. Athletic trainers can be found in high schools and colleges, corporations, professional sports, the military, performing arts, clinics, hospitals and physician offices. Athletic trainers impact health care through action.
Social Workers
March marks National Social Work Month. Social Workers positively touch the lives of millions of Americans each day in many places – like hospitals, schools, child welfare agencies and more. Social Workers at HMSL are in all inpatient units and the Emergency Department. Our social workers work with patients and physicians in discharge planning and connecting them with community resources and other needed support. Thank you for all you do!
