International Project Management Day – Nov. 7
International Project Management Day recognizes the impact that project managers have on team dynamics and project outcomes.
Our HMSL-based Project Directors, Managers and Specialists support our leadership team on a variety of strategies and initiatives that span the five pillars. They work with stakeholders across the hospital to develop and execute project plans that ensure we meet our targets. HMSL appreciates our amazing project management team members who serve our hospital in a variety of administrative and clinical areas.
National Radiologic Technologist Week – Nov. 3-9
National Patient Transport Week – Nov. 3-9
This team provides transportation service and care to all of our patients. Transporters play a vital role in patient flow, patient care and the overall patient experience.
National Medical Staff Services Awareness Week – Nov. 3-9
Our department handles all hospital credentialing and privileging functions for all new applicants to the medical staff and for all reappointing applicants to the medical staff. We support all physicians and allied health professionals on the HMSL medical staff to ensure they have everything needed in order to be reappointed to our medical staff every three years. We work to ensure all members of the medical staff are in compliance with the HMSL Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations. We ensure all required documentation is current and in proper order. We coordinate all medical staff department and committee meetings. We coordinate the ED physician on call schedules and ensure physicians are paid for their on call services in a timely manner. Our physician support coordinator helps all providers get set up with the technical tools and IT access needed in order to effectively document electronically in the EHR. We coordinate across a variety of teams to ensure providers have the right privileges at the right time and are in compliance with DNV and CMS standards.
We’re a small, yet mighty, team working behind the scenes to ensure compliance with CMS and accreditation guidelines!
National Nurse Practitioner Week – Nov. 10-16
Perioperative Nurse Week – Nov. 10-16
The House of Delegates of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) decided in 1979 that one day of the year should be set aside for perioperative nurses. This day would be to celebrate and spread awareness about the work and contributions of these nurses among the general public. The day selected was November 14. Over time, the single day became a week-long celebration of the dedication and hard work put in by all the perioperative nurses across the country. Here at HMSL, we celebrate all perioperative staff during Perioperative Nurse Week. Departments celebrating include PAT, AOD, SPD, OR, PACU, and Endoscopy; these departments combined include 300+ staff members! Periop staff handle the care of patients who need surgery or other invasive procedures. They interact with everyone involved- the patients, their families, the surgeons, the anesthesiologists, and many other medical personnel involved to ensure their patient’s comfort.
Inside an operating room, perioperative nurses would work as scrub nurses in charge of the instruments, or as circulating nurses, who ensure the quality of nursing care throughout the procedure. Pre and post-surgery, they are the nurses who ensure that the patients have all the information they need to continue healing and have the best possible care in the hospital. The job is frequently stressful, but nurses perform their duties cheerfully. There are multiple organizations which Periop nurses belong such as AORN, American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses (ASPAN), and Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA).
