Dressing up for Halloween is fun, but please be mindful of how your costume could be interpreted by our patients or your colleagues. And remember that your attire cannot interfere with our PPE requirements. Review these guidelines before you plan your outfit for Halloween.
Please don’t wear:
Any costume or clothing with imagery, symbols, words or phrases that violate our I CARE values, an established policy, handbook guideline, or general professional appropriateness including but not limited to:
- Prejudice or hostility toward others based on categories protected from discrimination in our nondiscrimination policy (race, sex, disability, religion, sexual orientation, etc.)
- Culturally based costumes. (Dressing up as a particular culture can be offensive if you are not part of that culture.)
- Violence, illness, injury, death, gang affiliation or weapons
- Sex, nudity, drugs/paraphernalia, illegal activities, politics, or other topics that cause divisiveness between people
- Tattoos containing imagery, symbols, words, or phrases that violate an established policy, handbook guideline, or general professional appropriateness
Appropriate things to wear:
- One festive face mask that covers the nose and mouth and is worn over day-to-day mask based on your location and PPE requirements
- Decorative clothing such as festive scrubs, shirts, blouses, ties or socks
- Decorative hair covering
- Decorative shoe covering
Decorative jewelry if it does not pose a patient or employee safety risk
